The Lorentz Casimir Lyceum makes an effort to bring language and math skills up to standard. In grade 1 there is an extra lesson in math and Dutch (one extra lesson per subject per week for half a year). Within the subject of mathematics, especially arithmetic skills from elementary school are brought up to standard and maintained, later in conjunction with the subjects of physics and economics. During the year we monitor the improvement of the level with validated tests. Students from havo-4 without math in their curriculum receive an extra hour of math on the class schedule for a year. For non-native students, there is a Language Support group in the lower and upper grades. These meetings focus on the acquisition of (school) language, both oral and written. Students get to work with current Dutch-language material in order to get a better grip on the Dutch language together by increasing their vocabulary and feeling for Dutch.
